Regulation at work
A 5-Minute Nervous System Reset at Your Desk
A “reset” cannot erase chronic stress in five minutes. It can, however, create a deliberate pause between pressure and response. This short practice is designed for a desk, without special clothing, equipment or leaving a meeting-heavy workday.

Why a pause supports performance
Under pressure, attention can narrow and decisions may become more reactive. A brief interruption helps you notice tension, recover context and decide what actually needs action.
The goal is not to make employees individually responsible for unhealthy systems. Workload, psychological safety, boundaries and leadership remain organisational responsibilities.
The five-minute desk sequence
Keep the breath easy and the practice discreet.
- 1Minute 1: place both feet down and notice support.
- 2Minute 2: relax your jaw, hands and shoulders without forcing them.
- 3Minute 3: breathe naturally, allowing a slightly easier exhale.
- 4Minute 4: look away from the screen and orient to the wider room.
- 5Minute 5: identify the single next priority and one boundary it requires.
Make regulation part of work design
Teams benefit when brief practices sit alongside realistic planning, protected breaks and clear communication. Our online Corporate Wellness program teaches desk-based somatic tools that can be used across distributed teams.
For deeper individual exploration, Somatic Breathwork offers one-to-one guidance over four weeks.
